I am a citizen. What should I know?

When would I use My Business Directory?

The City enacted the Business Licence Bylaw 3609/2018 (pdf) in 2018 which requires all businesses to hold a valid business licence. My Business Directory is a listing of all licensed businesses operating in the city of Red Deer.

How do I get started?

Enter your search in the search field. Searchable information can be in the form of:

  • company name
  • address
  • category
  • business type

 The field will start to produce results after three letters have been entered. 

You can refine your search using the "Browse Categories" area on the right side of the screen.

My initial search produced too many businesses. How do I narrow the results?

To better target the results you want, try using the Browse Categories on the right side of the screen. Click on the checkmark beside All Categories to deselect all the categories. Add a check mark beside the category or categories you would like included in your search.

You can hover over the categories to get a description of the types of businesses in each category.

I am not getting any results. What does that mean?

If your search nets you no results, it could be for a few different reasons:

  1. There are no businesses that match your search criteria.
  2. Your search criteria is too narrow. Try selecting more categories in the Browse Categories area.
  3. Check your spelling. It's possible you have misspelled a word in your search.
The business doesn't have an address listed. Why?

The business you are researching is likely a home-based business. Home-based businesses will not display their address. You can contact the business using the alternate contact information listed (phone number, website, email address).

A business is not listed in the directory. Why?

There are a few reasons why a business does not appear in the directory.

  1. The business does not have a current Business Licence.
  2. Based on Provincial and Federal regulations, some professions, trades and businesses do not require a Business Licence, although they may still choose to appear in My Business Directory.

Why is my business not listed?

Your business is not listed for one of two reasons:

  1. You do not have a current City of Red Deer Business Licence. Visit our Business Licences page to learn more about the Licensing process.
  2. Your business is exempt from requiring a Business Licence and you did not opt into appearing in the directory. Please contact Inspections and Licensing to inquire about adding your business to My Business Directory.
Why is my business address missing?

Businesses classified as home-based businesses will not have location information published.

How do I get my businesses into a different category classification?
