Green Deer

Green Deer encourages residents of all ages, abilities, and economic and cultural backgrounds to pick up litter and “leave it better than you found it”.

You can do your part to help keep our city clean and healthy by registering for Green Deer and picking up litter in your backyard, around your neighbourhood, or in a favourite green space.

A modified Green Deer program will continue in 2020. For more information, and to register as a volunteer, contact Kerry Wood Nature Centre.

While participating in Green Deer, be sure to follow the recommendations of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. Do not organize large gatherings to pick up litter with your community association or business as you may have done in past years, but instead focus on what you can do as an individual or as members of the same household.

Guidelines for anyone who wishes to get involved with litter clean up:

  • Remember to wear closed-toe shoes, gloves and use a litter picker to minimize your risk of injury.
  • If you find litter that is unsafe, including needles, call 403-342-8234 or email parks@reddeer.ca. Our staff will respond as soon as possible.
  • If you discover an urban encampment (either active or vacant), please report to the police non-emergency line at 403-343-5575.
