Report a problem: Roads & Traffic / Street Sweeping
Every spring City streets are swept to remove the sanding material that has been spread on the streets over the winter. The main thoroughfares are swept first, and then we move into the residential areas. Typically, street sweeping begins in late April or early May once snowfall is unlikely and we can be confident more traction materials will not be applied to the roads.
Residential Street Sweeping
Streets are swept from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Watch for No Parking signs in your neighbourhood and sign up for Notify Red Deer to get an alert before street sweeping begins in your area. Street sweeping works from the inside-out, starting with the smaller closes and crescents and moving outward to the larger, busier roads within the neighbourhood. This means that sweeping will start on Grey Routes, followed by Green Routes. Grey Routes are the quieter streets, closes and crescents in your neighbourhood that get less traffic, where as Green Routes are the larger and busier main roads in the neighbourhood, including bus routes and school zones.
