Downtown Governance & Advisory Committees

Greater Downtown governance is evolving. This page explains what is changing now, what remains in place during the transition, and how future governance conversations will move forward.

Current status

Downtown businesses have voted in favour of disestablishing the downtown Business Improvement Area. The City is proceeding with the required legislative steps and continuing essential downtown services, support for public spaces, and support for downtown events during the transition.

What comes next

Council has approved a downtown-focused Committee of Council to provide advice and help guide future discussions about downtown businesses, public spaces, events, and long-term revitalization.

Recruitment for public members will begin in August 2026 as part of The City’s annual committee recruitment process, with terms beginning in January. Learn more
