Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If your questions are not answered here, please call 587-273-5551.

What are the registration dates?
  • Returning Gardener plot renewal: March 2-20
  • Returning Gardener plot changes (different size or location): March 30-April 8
  • New Gardener Registration Day: April 18
How can I register / pay in person?

Returning gardeners will have three opportunities to re-register and pay in person if required:

Location: Don Moore Recreation Centre (4501 47a Ave)
Time: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Dates: March 4, March 11, March 18

Returning gardeners wishing to switch plots (based on availability) will have one opportunity to switch plots and pay in person if required:

Location: Don Moore Recreation Centre (4501 47a Ave)
Time: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Date: April 2

During these in-person registration days, staff will be available to answer questions about the program, support registration and payment, and confirm plot assignments. If you have questions any time, please contact us at 587-273-5551 or email gardenprogram@reddeer.ca.

Can I still register and pay at the cemetery?

After reviewing how and where customer service support is provided, the City determined that the cemetery is not an appropriate location for this service. Moving customer service support to more suitable settings helps ensure a respectful environment and a consistent experience for everyone. While this change may take some adjustment, gardeners will continue to have access to customer service support by email or phone, as well as during three scheduled in-person registration days at the Don Moore Recreation Centre.

Why is the registration process changing?

The program continues to grow and enforcing clear registration and payment deadlines helps ensure the process remains fair, consistent and efficient for all garden plot customers. These updates allow the City to manage the program responsibly, and ensure plots are actively used each season.

What happens if I miss the registration deadline?

If application and payment are not received by the deadline, the plot will be forfeited and available for selection by another gardener. Extensions and holds will not be granted.

Do these rules apply to existing gardeners?

Yes. To ensure equal access to all gardeners participating in the plot program, we are requiring returning gardeners to follow the same steps as new participants. Strict deadline enforcement ensures we provide equal access to all.

What if I cannot make the in-person dates?

Payment for your garden plot can be accepted at the Don Moore Recreation Centre (4501 47a Ave) at any time, however your Garden Plot Application must be received and processed by the Garden Plot Program customer service team. This means you must submit your completed application to gardenprogram@reddeer.ca and receive confirmation from our team that your application has been received before visiting The Don Moore Recreation Centre to make payment in person. Please note that the only location for in person payment is the Don Moore Recreation Centre. No other facilities are able to take payment for your garden plot.

We encourage program participants to phone our Garden Program customer service line at 587-273-5551 if you need assistance with the application.

How do I renew the same plot from last year?

Gardeners who participated in last year's Garden Program, and want to garden the same plot as the year before have approximately 3 weeks to submit their application and payment.

To see the plot renewal dates, please visit the Returning Garden Plot Program Registration.

How do I change my plot?

Gardeners who participated in last year's Garden Program, but wish to change either their plot size or location are encouraged to first renew their existing plot (to ensure they get a plot for the season). Once the renewal timeframe ends, gardeners are provided the opportunity to select from available lots to switch to. Depending on the plot size, you may be required to make additional payment or receive a refund for the difference.

To see the renewal and plot switching dates, please visit the Returning Garden Plot Program Registration.

What plots are available?

To view the plots available, visit Garden Locations. To inquire about a specific plot, please call 587-273-5551.

Have fees changed?

Yes. The program fees for the 2026 season are:

Plot Size - APPROXIMATE 2026 Fees
Large (A) - 90m2 to 120m2 $63.00/yr
Medium (B) - 40m2 to 60m2 $45.00/yr
Small (C) - 25m2 to 30m2 $31.00/yr
Are plot locations or sizes changing?

No. Plot locations and sizes remain unchanged in 2026.

Will I have to line up for Registration Day to secure a plot?

New customers can obtain a garden plot by registering in person on Registration Day. Any remaining plots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend having a few preferred locations and plot options in mind, as availability may vary.
