City Council has identified four key focus areas for 2025 that will guide efforts in improving the community and enhancing Red Deer’s future. These priorities build upon the ongoing work across the organization and reinforce the long-term vision outlined in Red Deer 2050 and the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan.

Development of this mandate is part of an annual organizational process to review work that has happened and look forward and set priorities for Council in the coming year.

In 2025, these priorities are:

  • Financial Stewardship – Enhancing accountability, efficiency, affordability, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Economic Development – Supporting business growth, housing advocacy, and downtown revitalization.
  • Community Safety & Well-Being – Addressing homelessness, social concerns, and public safety resources.
  • Community Acumen – Strengthening communication, collaboration, and trust between Administration, Council, and the community.

“These priorities represent the direction we need to take to ensure a prosperous future for Red Deer,” said Mayor Ken Johnston. “We remain committed to improving the quality of life for all residents, and by focusing on these areas, we are ensuring Red Deer continues to thrive economically, socially, and sustainably.”

“Our role as Administration is to transform these priorities into clear administrative actions that will make a tangible difference in the community. It is key that our community also understands where we will focus our administrative work.” said City Manager Tara Lodewyk.

The formalization of Council’s 2025 focus areas was presented today during Council’s regular meeting.
