The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County are inviting residents, business owners, and community partners to participate in shaping the future of the region through upcoming engagement opportunities for the new Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP). The IDP is a collaborative agreement that ensures both municipalities work together on key issues like land use, transportation, services, economic development, and Truth & Reconciliation.
The IDP outlines a shared vision for how land, infrastructure, and services will be managed across municipal boundaries, creating a cooperative framework between the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County.
“The Intermunicipal Development Plan is a vital tool for ensuring that Red Deer and Red Deer County continue to grow and thrive together. By working collaboratively, we can create a region that benefits all citizens, while preserving the unique character of each municipality. I encourage all community members to take part in this process and share their perspectives on how we can move forward together,” said Ken Johnston, Mayor of Red Deer.
“Partnership is the cornerstone of the IDP, and we’re proud of the strong relationship between Red Deer County and the City of Red Deer. This plan addresses key issues like land use and services but also seeks to honor our commitment to the Indigenous community and to our community partners. We want to hear from our communities to ensure economic viability, so your input is truly invaluable,” said Jim Wood, Mayor of Red Deer County.

In person open house – drop in:
- Thursday, October 24 | 4 until 7 p.m. at Red Deer County (38106 Range Road 275)
- Wednesday, October 30 | 4 until 7 p.m. at Red Deer County (38106 Range Road 275)
Residents can also share thoughts through an online survey - available October 24 through November 15 at engage.reddeer.ca, or drop into Red Deer City Hall (main floor, regular hours) or Red Deer Country offices (regular hours) to share feedback at your convenience.
During the open houses, participants will be able to share their thoughts on future land use, shared services, economic growth, and supporting Indigenous communities. Public feedback will directly influence the final version of the IDP, helping shape how the region grows, develops, and operates in the years to come. Participation ensures the plan reflects the priorities of residents and business owners in both municipalities.
The IDP, first adopted in 2007, is being updated to reflect the evolving needs of both municipalities. The new plan emphasizes partnership, cooperation, and inclusivity, guiding future land use, service coordination, and economic growth.
