As the final traces of snow melts and temperatures rise, construction season is officially back. Residents can expect to see an increase in activity on city streets as crews work to improve roads, sidewalks, and other critical infrastructure throughout the spring, summer, and fall months.

Construction season is essential to maintaining and improving Red Deer’s roadways, ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for all. This year’s planned projects include road micro-surfacing, utility upgrades, enhancements to intersections, and road asphalt resurfacing in several communities throughout Red Deer.

“With construction comes the possibility of delays, detours, and disruptions,” said Lee Birn, Infrastructure Management and Roads Superintendent at The City of Red Deer. “We’re asking everyone to be patient, plan ahead, and above all, stay safe around work zones.”

To help residents navigate the season with ease, The City of Red Deer provides up-to-date information on all current and upcoming road closures through the Traffic Impact Map which can be found at www.reddeer.ca/roadclosures.

Motorists are urged to use caution near construction zones:

  • Slow down and obey all posted signs and flag persons.
  • Stay alert to changing traffic patterns and road surfaces.
  • Give crews space to work safely—respect barriers.
  • Never use mobile devices while driving, especially near construction zones.

The City thanks residents for their continued patience and cooperation as we work to improve our community’s infrastructure. For more information about the construction projects planned for this year, visit www.reddeer.ca/constructionseason.
