At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, Red Deer Emergency Services crews responded to calls of a house explosion in the Rosedale neighbourhood.

Following multiple calls to 9-1-1, crews arrived on scene to find one half of a duplex on Rupert Crescent was on fire. The structure had suffered severe structural damage to two of its exterior walls.

One person was home at the time of the incident, and had already evacuated the building once crews arrived on scene. The person had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Occupants of the other half of the duplex evacuated their residence immediately and did not sustain any injuries.

Emergency Services crews were able to contain the fire to one half of the duplex. While the situation was under control by 2 a.m., crews remained on scene until later in the morning to monitor for hot spots.

The incident remains under investigation. Further updates will be provided upon conclusion of the investigation.
