The City of Red Deer has been working hard to plan for the eventual return of modified summer programming amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of summer programs will take place in July and August, should provincial health restrictions allow. These program options are viewable now on Look ‘n Book and registration will take place on Tuesday, May 18 at 12:00 noon. Registration will occur primarily online through Look ‘n Book. No in-person registrations will be accepted. Due to a recent software upgrade, credits can now be used to register for programs online.

Customers should visit their Look’ n Book accounts prior to registration day to ensure access is up to date. For any questions regarding account access please contact Recreation at 403-309-8411.

Summer registration will include opportunities for:

  • Preschool programming
  • Preschool/child/youth half-day summer programming
  • Private swim lessons
  • Low-intensity fitness

Preschool, child and youth programming (ages 3-12) will be offered in small group sizes, within dedicated spaces at the Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre, Michener Aquatic Centre, Recreation Centre and the Intermediate School (Culture Services). Half-day programming will be available at each facility in both the morning and afternoon, Monday-Friday.

“We recognize the valuable role our summer programming plays as families prepare to keep kids active and entertained when school is out this summer,” says Barb McKee, Recreation Superintendent. She continues, “our staff are working on creating programming that would abide by provincial health restrictions in anticipation of our return to some normalcy this summer.”

Enhanced health and safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of staff, participants and families. Safety measures will include the use of appropriate PPE, hand sanitizer stations at our facilities, designating sick rooms, physically distant activities, using designated entrances and more.

For a full list of available programs please visit Look ‘n Book. Alternatively, customers can create their own custom Activity Guide at www.reddeer.ca/MyActivityGuide. This program allows you to choose locations, categories and age groups that work for your family.

Should current provincial restrictions remain in place through the summer months, those who have registered in summer programming would be issued a full refund.
