Red Deer Emergency Services are reminding Red Deerians of local fireworks restrictions in advance of Canada Day.
Fireworks are often used to mark special events and holidays, but can be dangerous if not managed properly. The City implemented a Fireworks Bylaw in 2019 which requires licenced professionals to operate the explosive devices to ensure safety and protection of residents and property.
“We want to remind everyone to leave fireworks to the professionals,” said Fire Marshal Tim Kivell. “Fireworks can be dangerous and can have serious environmental repercussions if proper planning and precautions are not in place, which is why we require licensed professionals to be engaged.”
Red Deerians can attend a free Canada Day fireworks show at Bower Ponds hosted by the Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society.
“For those not wanting to attend a public event, we recommend considering other, more safe ways to celebrate. Glow sticks, noise makers, family crafts or an outdoor movie night are all fun, family-friendly ways to celebrate safely.” said Kivell.
