Volunteer opportunities are available this summer for creative folks who wish to help produce a series of murals in downtown Red Deer. The murals, part of the Meet the Street initiative, will be painted in July and August and celebrated at the annual Meet the Street Arts & Culture Festival over September long weekend.
Two types of volunteer opportunities are available, and volunteers may choose one or both.
Mural Prep Crew
Get together with a fun team to prep and prime wall surfaces for the Meet the Street artists. This role offers a chance to connect with fellow community members and be a part of the first steps of mural painting. Includes ground and scaffold work. Painting experience is not required. Shifts will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 – 5 p.m. from late June to mid-August.
Mural Painting Volunteer
Mural volunteers will work alongside the 2022 Meet the Street mural artists to create several new downtown murals. Tasks will vary and may include tracing out designs, blocking in shapes or colours, and assisting with site set-up and take-down. Includes ground and scaffold work. Painting experience is necessary for this role.
There are no age restrictions for volunteers, but those under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while on-site.
Those interested in helping out are asked to contact Volunteer Coordinator, Sara Logan at sara.logan@reddeer.ca and include their availability from June to August. Mural Prep Crew applicants are asked to include their preference for Tuesdays or Thursdays.
The deadline to respond is June 23 at 4 p.m.
