Environmental Services is working in parts of Vanier East and Laredo in response to a spill of gasoline that has entered the stormwater system.
At approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, Red Deer Emergency Services was called to the area by residents reporting an odour of gasoline. It was discovered that gasoline was leaking out of a fuel tank from a vehicle and approximately 120 litres of gasoline was spilled. The City’s Environmental Services department is working with Alberta Environment to clean up the spill and to minimize environmental impacts.
Residents in Vanier and Laredo may continue to smell gasoline while clean-up efforts are underway. As this spill is contained to the stormwater system there is no risk to drinking water.
