In January 2022, The Canadian Red Cross announced the retirement of their Red Cross Swim program, to take effect in December of this year. In its place, The City will adopt the Lifesaving Society, Swim for Life program.
The Swim for Life program will allow The City to continue to offer quality swim instruction to Red Deerians looking to gain confidence in the water, learn to swim or continue to improve their ability.
This change may alter current swim levels, and the accomplishments required under each level. It is important that Red Deerians understand what level is appropriate for them prior to the next registration session, beginning on December 13.
Lifesaving Society, Swim for Life lessons will begin with the winter registration session and will be implemented in January of 2023.
“We are encouraging anyone interested in swim lessons to visit the web page to understand how the change will affect them,” says Monique Pages-Mearns, Recreation Programs Coordinator. She continues, “this is a big adjustment, so we want to be sure that the community has the information they need to register appropriately this December.”
With the new structure, Red Deerians are encouraged to visit www.reddeer.ca/swim to view the Swim Transfer Chart ahead of registration day.
