Red Deer property owners can expect to receive their 2023 property tax notices in their mailboxes and inboxes soon as The City is sending them out today.
The 2023 tax payment deadline is June 30. Payments can be made online or in person through financial institutions, by mail, through mortgage companies, or at City Hall. Alternatively, property owners can sign up for the Tax Instalment Plan (TIP) to pay their taxes in monthly preauthorized payments. Visit www.reddeer.ca/TIP for more information and www.reddeer.ca/mycity to sign up by June 15.
Property owners who do not receive their tax notice by mid June should check their MyCity account, which can be accessed at www.reddeer.ca/mycity, or contact the City’s tax team at 403-342-8126 or tax@reddeer.ca. The City may not have updated ownership information for recent real estate transactions.
Unpaid taxes are subject to a six per cent penalty, lower than the historical seven per cent. Penalties are applied to current year unpaid taxes on July 1 and September 1, and on taxes in arrears on January 1 and July 1. This is the last year of lowered penalty rates that were provided to support recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.
Anyone who may not be able to pay their taxes by the deadline is encouraged to pay as much as they can to reduce penalties, and to reach out to City staff to discuss payment options.
More information about Red Deer’s property tax program is available on The City’s website, www.reddeer.ca/tax.
