City Council: meeting recap

The following decisions were made at today’s City Council meeting. 

Extended Producer Responsibility

• City Council received an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) report from administration for information. The report detailed what is known about the EPR policy and highlights how administration has been engaged in the EPR development process. Administration will return to Council in 2024 with recommendations and considerations about how The City of Red Deer could participate in this new system. 

Permanent Supportive Housing Capital Grant (decision)

• City Council approved the creation of a new municipal incentive grant called the Permanent Supportive Housing Capital Grant Program. . 

Traffic Bylaw (decision)

• City Council approved first reading of a new Traffic Bylaw. The new bylaw contains updates to reflect the parking infrastructure improvement program; improves readability through simplification of language and consolidation of related topics; and the removal of items that are covered in existing bylaws or that are no longer required. 

Code of Conduct (decision)

• City Council adopted a new Code of Conduct Bylaw, which includes a redesigned complaint and investigation process, a new independent Integrity Commissioner role, and more robust guidance pertaining to sanctions. The bylaw passed second and third reading today and will take effect December 1, 2023.
