City Council formally adopted the Red Deer RCMP’s 2024-2026 Annual Policing Plan (APP) today. The APP, developed jointly between Red Deer RCMP and The City, outlines the community’s top policing priorities for the next two years.

The 2024-2026 APP identifies three top priorities for Red Deer, including Intelligence-led Response, Police Visibility and Public Safety, and Community Engagement and Partnerships. Each priority identifies specific goals and areas of focus for police.

“These priorities underscore the Red Deer RCMP's unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. By implementing intelligence-led strategies, enhancing police visibility, and fostering community partnerships, I’m confident the RCMP can continue to create a safer and more resilient community for all residents,” said Mayor Ken Johnston.

The City and RCMP worked together to develop the plan through public consultations carried out in January and February 2024. Targeted focus groups and a public survey were used to gather input from the community about their experiences and feelings of safety in Red Deer. This information was analyzed and then combined with local crime data and trends to inform policing priorities.

“It’s important that our priorities reflect what we heard from the community. We focused on understanding the issues that are of greatest importance to Red Deerians and tackling them with made-in-Red Deer strategies and solutions,” said Superintendent Holly Glassford, Officer in Charge for the Red Deer RCMP.  “We then layered in crime data and intelligence, and turned that into strategic, comprehensive policing priorities that reflect the crime and community safety needs of Red Deer.”

The priorities will address issues like street-level drug trafficking and use, persons and property crime, enhancing trail and road safety, increasing strategic relationships with criminal justice partners and continuing to connect with the community to ensure resiliency.

The 2024-2026 Annual Policing Plan will be in place from April 2024 to March 2026. The full plan is available on the City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/APP. A finalized What We Heard Report detailing the public feedback will also be shared once it is available.
