Parks and Public Works staff have been busy getting outdoor rinks ready for the winter season, and starting Friday, December 13, most neighbourhood outdoor rink locations will be ready for use.

The recent cold temperatures and snowfall have provided the right conditions for ice build up; however, some rinks still have thin spots. As rinks are ready to open, hockey nets will be delivered, and lighting systems will be activated at the locations.

The skating surface at Bower Ponds is not ready to open yet as conditions are not safe yet.

The City reminds skaters that the use of helmets is recommended at all times, and hockey is not permitted at the ice skating oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park.

The Ice Oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park is open for drop-in skating Saturday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offering Friday Free Skates from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Drop-in skating at Setters Place is included with any monthly recreation pass, or by paying daily admission. This facility is cash-only, and there is no ATM on site.
