(Red Deer, Alberta)

Heads up Red Deer! The annual Westerner Days Parade is rolling through downtown on Wednesday, July 15. In addition to the colourful floats, marching bands and community spirit, Red Deerians should expect early morning road closures and transit changes.

Rolling road closures along the parade route start early, and last throughout the duration of the parade, so plan your route ahead of time. Closures include:

  • Spruce Drive at 43 Street will close at 6 a.m. as the Pidherney’s Centre serves as the parade staging area. Motorists will be unable to turn right onto 43 Street until after 1 p.m.
  • Ross Street westbound into downtown will close at approximately 7:45 a.m. Traffic will be diverted through Woodlea to 55 Street.
  • 49 Avenue northbound will close at approximately 7:45 a.m. with traffic diverted at 45 Street.
  • 49 Street eastbound at 51 Avenue will close at 7:45 a.m.
  • Barricades will be placed along the entire parade route, and strictly enforced by 8:30 a.m. in the following locations:
  • 47 Avenue at 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 & 50 (Ross) Streets
  • 49 Avenue at 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 (Ross), 51, 52, 53 Streets
  • 48 Avenue at 53 Street

Roads will reopen once the entire parade has finished, at approximately 1 p.m. Please respect all barricades and signage. These road closures are strictly enforced to ensure the safety of parade attendees, participants, and motorists.
