Red Deer, Alta. – Red Deer RCMP is proud to highlight the ongoing efforts of its Downtown Patrol Unit (DPU), a dedicated team working hand-in-hand with local businesses, residents, and community organizations to ensure a safe, welcoming and vibrant downtown environment
From daily foot patrols to enforcement initiatives and proactive problem-solving, DPU serves as a bridge between Red Deer RCMP detachment and the community it protects. Officers prioritize visibility, approachability, and partnership, while fostering stronger relationships with business owners, employees, and patrons alike. By addressing concerns before they escalate and supporting community initiatives, the unit plays a critical role in maintaining the vitality of downtown spaces.
In an exciting new chapter for the unit, Corporal Samuel Holm has been appointed as the new supervisor of the unit. Cpl. Holm brings 17 years of law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to community-based policing to this role. He will oversee 5 RCMP officers and 2 Community Peace Officers, combining their efforts to operate seamlessly as a cohesive unit dedicated to serving the community.
“We are thrilled to have Cpl. Holm leading our Downtown Patrol Unit” said Supt. Holly Glassford, Red Deer RCMP Detachment Commander. “This team is at the heart of our efforts to create a downtown where everyone feels safe and welcomed. By building trust, listening to the needs of the community, and serving as a visible presence to discourage unlawful behaviour, together they are positively impacting public safety.”
With a renewed focus on visibility and engagement, Red Deer RCMP DPU is setting a positive example of modern, community-oriented policing. Residents and visitors alike can expect to see even more officers on foot, bike, segways and on patrol, ready to assist and connect with the community they serve.
