Red Deer RCMP locate missing elderly with assistance of local Search and Rescue

Red Deer, Alta. – Red Deer RCMP work in collaboration with community partners in locating a missing elderly woman.

On Fri. Apr. 10, 2026, at 2:21 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a report of a missing elderly woman from the South Hill area of Red Deer, Alta. The female was with family when she wandered away from an appointment unnoticed. After a preliminary search, the family could not locate the female and contacted the Red Deer RCMP for assistance.

Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and Red Deer RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) provided initial and on-going assistance, however the female was not located.

Out of concern for her safety, at 4:34 p.m. Red Deer RCMP engaged the Central Zone Search and Rescue and the Red Deer County Search and Rescue teams to assist with locating the missing woman.

As a result of all partners involved, the missing elderly female was located unharmed at 7:30 p.m. in an area of downtown Red Deer, Alta. City of Red Deer -Victim Services Unit (VSU) provided support to the family.

“Early activation of external resources was necessary with the urgency of the situation, and it resulted in a successful location of the missing person,” said Chad Reed, SAR Manager with Central Zone Search and Rescue.

Red Deer RCMP appreciate the knowledge of diverse resources. “This outcome reflects the strength of our partnerships and our shared commitment to public safety,” says Sgt. Dewald Steyn, with the Red Deer RCMP Community Response Unit.
