Red Deer, Alta. – On June 14, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to a theft of motor vehicle at the downtown Original Joe’s. Before officers could arrive, the vehicle had fled at a high rate of speed, running red lights and driving erratically. The suspect caused a collision, fled the scene and continued to drive erratically before ditching the vehicle. Shortly after, the Red Deer RCMP received calls stating the same male was attempting to steal vehicles in the Superstore parking lot. The suspect robbed a female of her keys but a male bystander was able to chase him off. When the suspect tried to get into another vehicle, he was apprehended and detained by two male bystanders until police arrived to conduct the arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Jesse David Hagel (26), a resident of Red Deer, was charged with:

  • Dangerous driving;
  • Fail to remain;

The Alberta RCMP would like to thank the members of the public who helped protect the victim and apprehend the suspect. Furthermore, the RCMP would like to take this moment to remind the public not to leave their cars running and unlocked, with the keys inside.
