A taxi plate draw will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, to award 26 new taxi plates for use in Red Deer.
Per the Vehicle for Hire Bylaw, adopted in May 2024, The City is required to issue 15 additional taxi plates annually for three consecutive years from the day the bylaw came into effect, after which the restriction on the number of plates will be removed. This will allow The City to issue taxi and accessible plates to eligible applicants upon request. Of the 15 plates awarded in 2024, 11 were returned to The City. These have been added to the available plates for the 2025 draw, bringing the total to 26.
To be eligible for the draw, applicants must meet all criteria to hold a Taxi Licence Plate. Applicants must have a plan to open a Brokerage or operate as an Independent Driver Owner.
To enter the draw, eligible applicants must complete the following before the application deadline:
- Plate Draw Application Form
- Brokerage Licence Application Form (for new Brokerages)
- Driver Application Form (for Independent Driver Owners)
- Payment of Plate Draw Fee - $103.00
Important dates:
- May 30 at 12 p.m. (noon) – Deadline for completed application packages
- June 1 at 11:59 p.m. – Deadline for payment of Plate Draw Fee
- June 4 at 2 p.m. – Plate Draw to be held at Red Deer City Hall
- September 4 – Plates awarded in the draw must be operational
