Warm weather impacting outdoor rinks

Recent warm temperatures are affecting outdoor rink conditions across Red Deer. While residents are encouraged to enjoy the many winter amenities available, using outdoor rinks when the ice is soft or wet can cause damage that shortens the skating season overall.

Skating on soft ice can create ruts and uneven surfaces, which require additional repair and maintenance. Limiting use during warm weather helps protect ice quality and ensures outdoor rinks remain open longer.

When outdoor rinks are not in good condition, residents are encouraged to consider other skating options, such as indoor arenas with public skating times. These alternatives provide safe and enjoyable opportunities to skate while helping preserve outdoor ice.

The City appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience as crews work to maintain outdoor rinks throughout changing winter conditions. Residents are reminded that rink conditions can change quickly and are encouraged to use their best judgment before skating.
