Red Deer Lights the Nights brings four weeks of festive fun to kick-off the holiday season.

Red Deer Lights the Nights has grown from a single event to a series of activities over several weeks. Through December 17, fun and festive activities are taking place downtown and throughout the city. Options include twinkle tours, art markets, hot chocolate booths, special guests, and more! Activities are free to attend and everyone is welcome  to join the fun.

Santa’s Bus Tour returns to share Christmas joy through the city. On four different December evenings, you can see him cruising through neighbourhoods on a Red Deer Transit Bus. Be sure to check the schedule below to find out when he’ll visit your neighbourhood!

Join the DBA on the Ross Street Patio for some frosty fun! Check out the children’s entertainers and sip hot chocolate by the fire while the DJ plays all your holiday favorites. Visit the craft station to join the kids in painting ice ornaments and pick up a take home activity to keep the fun going.

Seasons Treatings holiday photo contest
December 1-24

Capstone’s giving you the chance to strike a pose to win a special holiday gift!

It's a fun and easy way to get together and have some fun this holiday season: all you have to do is gather your friends, family, or pets at the holiday vignette at Canada 150 Square for a fun photoshoot together.

Post your photo on social (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and tag @liveincapstone #CapstoneCurious to enter our draw for a chance to win 1 of 2 incredible gift baskets.

The gift baskets are stocked with items from small businesses in Capstone, so you can feel merry about supporting local and spreading even more cheer with your neighbours this year.

Neighbourhood light contests

Many local community associations are hosting decorating contests in their neighbourhoods. Check with your community association for more information on what’s happening in your neighbourhood.

Winter Nights in Capstone

Capstone presents Winter Nights, an outdoor evening event from 4-9 p.m. at Canada 150 Square. Let your heart be light and enjoy our interactive Christmas doors display surrounded by festive lights and holiday décor all while cozying up with hot chocolate at our NEW fire tables and Muskoka chairs! This event is FREE for all ages, but we kindly ask that you please bring a non-perishable food item for The Red Deer Food Bank.

Late Night Shopping - Capstone and Downtown Red Deer
December 8

For one night many downtown and Capstone businesses remain open until 8 p.m. or later to help Red Deerians with their holiday shopping and to encourage the support of local businesses. Most participants have special offers and there will be free hot chocolate available on the Ross Street Patio, so it’s a great time to enjoy some holiday cheer.

Every winter, the farmers’ market makes a special appearance in downtown Red Deer to help you finish your holiday shopping. You can purchase tasty food and baked goods to feed the  family, local beers and wines for that holiday party and beautiful handmade gifts sure to impress that special someone at this accredited Alberta Farmers’ Market. This year we will be joined by live music from local entertainer Curtis Labelle and the Red Deer Community for Jazz. Check out the pop-up photography studio for that last minute Christmas card!

Follow @TheCityofRedDeer on Twitter for updates on his location throughout each tour. You can also use the MyBus website or app to see the location of the bus.

We’ve done our best to help ensure Santa can visit every neighbourhood, but due to his busy schedule he cannot visit every street. Please choose the route closest to your home to catch a glimpse of Santa and his team as they cruise by.

The tour will reach the first stop at 5:30 p.m.
