Archives' 60th Anniversary
In popular media, archives often contain treasures just waiting for the right set of eyes to uncover them. Whether or not a particular record is a “gem,” however, is in the eye of the beholder.
Sixty years ago, in March 1964, The City of Red Deer decided to commit to collecting and preserving these records so we can find a favourite new recipe, old photographs of our schools, the detailed plans for our city, and colourful personalities throughout our history.
Help celebrate our diamond anniversary by exploring a few of our favourite items from the Red Deer Archives collections and read about why they speak to us. The current selections were made by the four archives staff and our reporting line: the Information Management Services Supervisor, the Chief Information Officer, the City Manager, and the Mayor.
