Volunteering Weaves Us Together

In an official proclamation, Mayor Ken Johnston has declared 2023 the Year of the Volunteer in Red Deer. In the announcement, he noted that “volunteers are the lifeblood of communities, selflessly giving their time, energy, and talents to help others and make the world a better place.”

Volunteerism has a long history in our community. Citizens have long committed their time to the safety and betterment of the community through volunteer fire brigades, the Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance, and countless other local service clubs, charities, and committees.

The recent 2019 Canada Winter Games proved that our community still pulls together for an important cause, with over 4600 volunteers working together make the complex event a huge success. Volunteers will continue to have an essential role in Red Deer in the coming years, too. How are you giving back to your community?
