Red Deer RCMP charge male following assault

Red Deer RCMP have charged a male, following a public assault last week.

On Oct. 15, 2025, at approximately 4:20 p.m., RCMP were dispatched to an assault in progress outside of a business in Parkland Mall. Witnesses reported a lone male had approached and punched another male, while yelling racial comments.

Investigation determined the parties did not know one another and had no prior involvement.

Cameron Dowkes, a 43-year-old resident of Red Deer, has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
  • Wilful promotion of hatred

Dowkes was remanded into custody and appeared in court at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Oct. 22, 2025. A trial has been scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026.
