Red Deer, Alta – On Oct. 21, 2024 and Oct. 23, 2024, officers from Red Deer RCMP Youth and Community Action Team (YCAT) and Red Deer RCMP Police and Crisis Team (PACT) partnered with local schools to host two parent information nights.
These events, held at St. Joseph High School and Central Middle School, provided a platform for open communication between police and families. YCAT shared valuable information on online safety, anti-bullying strategies, and legal aspects affecting young people today. These discussions aimed to equip parents and guardians with practical tools to help their children navigate challenges they may face in a digital age and beyond.
“Our goal is to support families by offering insights into issues that impact our youth, providing them with knowledge to make informed decisions” said Cpl. Amber Prosser, NCO of Red Deer RCMP YCAT, “When we work together, we build a more safer, more resilient community”
Officers took the time to answer questions from attendees, addressing specific concerns and encouraging ongoing communication between families and law enforcement. Feedback from those in attendance indicated a strong appreciation for the proactive and information approach, with many expressing interest in future events. “This is just the beginning,” said Cst. Teresa Berube of Red Deer RCMP YCAT, “We are committed to working with the community to combat these challenges. Protecting our children and ensuring parents are aware of the risks and how to address them is our top priority.”
