As Canada Day weekend approaches, your Red Deer RCMP would like to remind residents to prioritize safety while celebrating. We encourage everyone to enjoy the festivities responsibly and follow these safety tips:
- Plan your transportation: If you plan to drink, arrange for a designated driver, use public transportation, or book a taxi/ride-sharing service. Never drive under the influence
- Be mindful of crowds: If attending large events or gatherings, keep an eye on your surroundings, stay with your group. Have a plan in case you get separated.
- Stay hydrated: With summer temperatures, it’s important to drink plenty of water, especially if you’ll be spending time outdoors.
- Be aware of your surroundings: Large gatherings can be targets for pickpockets. Keep an eye on your belongings and be vigilant.
- Respect noise levels: Be considerate of your neighbors and adhere to local noise bylaws, especially in residential areas.
- Pet safety: Keep pets indoors and away from loud noises like fireworks. Make sure they have proper identification in case they get lost
- Emergency contacts: Have a list of emergency contacts and know the locations of the nearest medical facilities.
- Water safety: If you’re planning activities near water, ensure everyone wears life jackets and knows how to swim. Never leave children unattended near water.
